Christ's Mission is Our Mission
by Duane Mabee on October 27, 2022Over the next several weeks, we will be looking at how we fit into Christ’s mission. God the Father loves us so much that He sent His Son into the world so that the world could be saved through Him, John 3:16-17. Paul echoes that in 1 Timothy 1:15, “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” (ESV). John wrote “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him,” (1 John 4:9 ESV). Christ’s mission, then, was to demonstrate to the world how much God loves us and to save all who will believe in Him, making them redeemed and forgiven children of God.
How do we fit into that mission? Jesus prayed, “As You (Father God) sent Me into the world, so I have sent them into the world,” (John 17:18 ESV). So, our mission is just like His. We are to show the world how much God loves them and introduce them to Jesus, the Only One Who can save them.
We cannot accomplish this mission on our own. We need the power of the Holy Spirit, which Christ promised to give us (Acts 1:8), and we need to work together. That’s what we believe and that’s what we do as the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
We believe our part of the mission is to reach the least reached people around the world. We state that goal as “All of Jesus for All the World.” Because of our commitment to Christ’s mission, God has hand-placed Alliance workers in some of the most spiritually desolate parts of the world. In fact, more than 80 percent of Alliance global staff serve in areas with little or no access to the gospel.
Most of us will never go to these places, though some of us should. Even so, we can all be a part of the mission through prayer and financial support, and we should be. Do not underestimate what your prayer and financial support can accomplish. Without both types of support from the U.S. Alliance family, our international workers cannot remain in place to bring the good news of great joy to the world’s least reached and most overlooked. Do not underestimate the impact the lack of your prayer and financial support has, either. The mission will not be accomplished if we are not all actively engaged.
Christ’s mission is our mission. We are to do everything we can to show the world how much God loves them and introduce them to Jesus, the Only One Who can save them.
