God Will Shepherd Us Through 2020
by Duane Mabee on December 26, 2019Each new year brings a sense of mixed emotions. Some years we are eager to leave the prior year behind. Maybe it was a rough year and there is a sense that if we can just close last year’s calendar, maybe all the bad stuff will stay in it and leave us alone. There is often a sense of hope and expectation for what a new year will bring. It feels like starting fresh, even though the calendar divisions are somewhat arbitrary. Sometimes we have a sense of uncertainty, maybe even trepidation. Who knows what the new year may bring?
As we look across the calendar divide into 2020 there is one thing that is certain, God will shepherd us through it just as He promised and just as He always has in the past.
God told Joshua, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go,” (Josh 1:9 ESV). David told Solomon, “Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you,” (1 Chron 28:20 ESV). Surely the God Who was with Joshua and Solomon will also be with you.
Jesus promise us that He would always be with us. “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me… And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age,” (Matt 28:18-20 ESV). Here’s one more promise. Through the prophet Isaiah, God said, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand,” (Isa 41:10 ESV).
Regardless of the mixture of emotions you may be experiencing as you gaze into 2020, you can be assured that no matter what comes, God will shepherd you through it. He will be your strength and song. He will guide you and protect you with His righteous right hand.
Happy New Year!
