10 Reasons

Why I’m Committed to Alliance Missions

By Dr. Peter Nanfelt

  1. Our Message… is the centrality of Christ (Colossians 1:27).  Our message is focused on the sufficiency of Christ as our Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King.  We sing “Jesus Only Is Our Message” because He is our all in all.

  1. Our Mission… is to complete Christ’s Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).  One of the primary functions of the Church is to be a channel of Living Water to spiritually thirsty people everywhere.  Every disciple of Jesus has been called to this task.

  1. Our Motivation… is to bring back the King (Matthew 24:14).  Jesus made it clear that, in some mysterious way, we have a role in setting the stage for His return by spreading the gospel across the world.  When the gospel has been proclaimed to “all nations,” Christ will return as King.

  1. Our Method The most effective way to evangelize the world is by planting churches.  A key is to plant missionary churches (Book of Acts). Alliance attribute is that it plants churches with a missionary vision.

  1. Our Missionaries…  are committed, well trained, and competent.  Alliance workers are among the best trained in the world.  In addition to educational requirements, Alliance workers are screened regarding their spiritual strength, emotional health, and language-learning ability.

  1. Our Members form a missionary movement.  One of the strengths of the C&MA is that we are a “missionary movement.”  Our 2,000 U.S.-based local churches make world missions a major priority of their ministry, and an effort is made to get every member of the congregation involved.

  1. Our Means is a central funding system (the Great Commission Fund).  Our team of Alliance missionaries is supported by individuals and churches through giving to the Great Commission Fund, which means that they don’t have to spend two or three years raising funds before they are allowed to go overseas.

  1. Our Mobility is evidenced by strategic redeployment to the cutting edge.  In The Alliance we practice “redeployment,” which means that we transition missionaries out of areas where the Church has been well established and reposition them in spiritually dark areas that have little or no gospel witness.

  1. Our Management  All contributions given to is characterized by integrity. Alliance ministries are handled by people who recognize that everything belongs to God.  Alliance leaders are people of exemplary character and carry out their responsibilities with a sense of keen devotion to God.

  1. Our Marks  The Lord of the Harvest has blessed the work of The Alliance for more than a century.  There are now more than 4 million people in the global show significant achievements.  Alliance family.  At least seven times as many C&MA believers worship in countries other than the United States.

Dr. Peter Nanfelt Peter and his wife, Jerry, served as missionaries with the C&MA from 1961 to 1979 in Indonesia.  Peter then worked at the C&MA National Office as regional director for East Asia and the Pacific Islands, vice president for International Ministries, and as president from 1998 to 2005.
