Influencers

by Duane Mabee on May 9, 2019

In our new sermon series “You Can Make a Difference,” we will be looking at the significant differences one individual can make.  You don’t have to be a Rhodes Scholar to do it, either.

I want to take a moment to say “Thank You” to some of the most important influencers I know – Mothers.  Your influence has shaped us and shaped our society far more than you realize.  You didn’t realize your role was so significant, did you?  But it is.  We wouldn’t be who we are without you.  OK, so we wouldn’t BE without you.

Most women don’t like to be compared to Proverbs 31 and I get that.  It’s like being compared to Mrs. Perfect.  While it is meant as a compliment, it feels like being put in the spotlight with all your flaws exposed.  I want you to hear (read) part of that Proverb, though, and don’t write me off too soon, because I want it to be true for you, today.  Verses 28 and 29 say: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, (or someone else significant if he isn’t in the picture), and he praises her, ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’”

Regardless of how well you feel you have or have not done as a mother; we do rise up and call you blessed.  We pray that the significant people in your life do the same.  No one is perfect, and parenting is one of the most demanding jobs on the planet.  We bless you for the significant influence you have had.  We bless you for the energy and passion you have invested, even when no one seemed to notice or appreciate it.  We bless you, because you have shaped the future.

If you are reading this, whether you are a mother or not, you have or had a mother who also shaped you.  I encourage you to rise up and call her blessed today, too.  Regardless of how well you feel she did or didn’t do, she shaped you.  It is likely that she did as well as she knew how to do.  So, bless her.  If you’re able to, contact her and let her know that you bless her.

Happy Mother’s Day
